Sweep results in 11 arrests

The following people were arrested Thursday in Ellwood City for alleged drug violations and other offenses:

•Paulette Myers, 60, 408 Loop St., New Castle. She faces drug-related charges in connection with alleged illegal sales of Roxicet, a controlled narcotic that contains oxycodone. She was released on her own recognizance.

•Hogan Cramer Gatto, 21, 214 Spring Ave., Ellwood City. He faces multiple drug-related charges for allegedly selling cocaine or counterfeit cocaine in exchange for oxycodone pills. His bond was set at $10,000.

•Louis Singleton, 21, 609 S. Ray St., New Castle. He faces multiple drug-related charges and additional firearms charges for an incident where police caught him with a loaded stolen handgun. He is charged in conjunction with carrying a gun without a license and being a convicted felon carrying a gun. He was already in the Lawrence County jail for a probation violation, and upon his arraignment Thursday, his bond was set at $300,000 on the new charges.

•Douglas Matthew Freed, 36, 195 McKim Way, Ellwood City. He is charged with multiple drug-related offenses, for alleged sales of crack cocaine. His bond was set at $10,000.

•Brett Baldelli, 25, Apt. 9, 201 Fifth St., Ellwood City. He is charged with multiple drug-related offenses for alleged possession and sale of oxycodone. He is in jail on $275,000 bond.

•Thomas Franklin Massey, 38, Rochester, Beaver County. He faces multiple drug-related charges for the alleged sale of crack cocaine. His bond is set at $10,000.

•Emma Thompson, 75, 1127 Crescent Ave., Ellwood City. She is facing multiple drug charges for alleged sale of fentanyl. Her bond was set at $10,000 and she posted bail.

•Richelle L. Kosto, 439 Loop St., Ellwood City. She is charged with credit card use offenses that are not drug related. Her bond was set at $25,000.

•Brian Flesher, 20, no known address. He also faces credit card charges and his bond was set at $35,000.

•Lonnie McCune, no known address. He was arrested on a summary warrant for disorderly conduct. He pleaded guilty before Cartwright, paid a fine and was released.

•An 18-year-old Ellwood City male who is being charged as a juvenile with nine counts of felony drug-related offenses. He is lodged in a youth shelter in Greenville.

  • Shad.jpg Shad Hanna’s: Demolition expected to resume

    Demolition of the former Shad Hanna’s restaurant is about to resume. Anthony Cioffi, New Castle code enforcement foreman, said the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection halted the demolition to determine if any asbestos was in the building.

    Kimberly Pazzanita Villella of Baden has announced her candidacy for the state Senate in the 47th District. A Democrat, Villella is beginning her second four-year term on Baden Borough Council.

  • money.jpg City pension fund sees gain in final quarter

    The city of New Castle’s employee pension fund gained in value during the last quarter of 2011. The gain is attributed to a strong showing in the stock market during the period following poor performance in the previous three months.

    Senior Judge Michael J. Wherry has denied a new trial regarding a property in downtown New Castle. In an order of court handed down yesterday, Wherry denied a new trial “because the plaintiffs lack standing as explained in the order of court dated Dec. 21, 2011.”
