NEW CASTLE —
The new bridge that carries Georgetown Road over Taylor Run in Plain Grove Township is open to traffic.
The bridge and road, which have been closed since mid-August, opened late Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reported.
The project replaced the existing bridge, about a quarter-mile west of Gerber Road, with a new structure. About 149 vehicles use this bridge on an average day, according to PennDOT.
Some minor work, including guide rail installation and other improvements, will continue in the bridge area through early November.
The project is part of a $1.8 million contract with Allison Park Contractors Inc. for improvements on several bridges in PennDOT’s District 11.
