Photo Gallery: Weekend’s fireworks, arts festivals go out with a bang

NEW CASTLE — Thousands ventured into downtown New Castle Saturday for Day 2 of the Fireworks Festival featuring Arts on the Riverwalk.

There, festival-goers found food and craft vendors, an artists market, children’s amusements, street performers and more. Some also opted to take a bus tour of the New Castle’s historic North Hill, while early arrivals could take advantage of a farmer’s market and Jameson Health System’s annual Run for Your Heart.

The weekend’s water activities included an anything-that-floats contest, as well as the American Cancer Society’s annual Ducky Derby.

And, of course, those who stayed to the end were treated to a spectacular fireworks show by Pyrotecnio.

It was the 23rd year for the Fireworks Festival, but the first time it had been combined with the New Castle Arts Festival to create a two-day celebration. It also was relocated from the traditional Columbus Innerbelt site to East Washington Street, between the Riverplex and Kennedy Square.
