Gas company to lay North Beaver pipeline

NEW CASTLE — Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania Inc. is planning to install a new natural gas line in North Beaver Township.

The company notified the Lawrence County commissioners of its plans to apply to the state Department of Environmental Protection for permits for the work. The proposed project will run along Route 108, also known as Mount Jackson Road.

The company plans to install about 7,500 feet of four-inch plastic natural gas pipeline along that road and several residential side streets in the township.

Those side roads include Arthur, Bryan, Charles and Kahl streets, Crest and Shannon avenues, Sunnyside Road and Michigan Street.

The purpose of the project is to upgrade existing gas lines which are aging, according to a letter sent to the commissioners.

The work will cross four unnamed Mahoning River tributaries. Utility line stream crossings and other pipelines are to be installed by open trench above existing culverts, the company explained.
