Jordan Brown hearing date set

A hearing to determine if Jordan Brown will be tried as an adult will begin at 9 a.m. Jan. 29.

Lawrence County Common Pleas President Judge Dominick Motto has set aside a full day for the proceeding.

The hearing was rescheduled from Dec. 10 so that adolescent development expert Dr. Kirk Heilbrun can be available to testify. Heilbrun is a professor and head of the psychology department at Drexel University in Philadelphia.

Brown, 12, formerly of New Beaver Borough, is charged as an adult with two counts of homicide in the Feb. 20 shooting deaths of his father’s pregnant fiancée, Kenzie Marie Houk, 26, and their unborn baby.

Brown was 11 years old at the time of the shooting.

The youth has been in custody since March 2 in the Edmund L. Thomas Adolescent Center in Erie.
