The Lawrence County prison board is looking into how heroin got into the jail earlier this week.
County Controller David Gettings, who is prison board president, said yesterday that the incident involved three inmates.
At the prison boards rescheduled regular meeting yesterday, its members called an executive session for personnel matters. Gettings said part of that discussion was to look at how shift commanders and personnel were covering the jail when the incident occurred.
He would offer no further details about what happened, adding that he would comment further after he receives more information.
Gettings said he and Commissioner Steve Craig will visit the jail today to discuss how such problems can be avoided in the future.
Meanwhile, the investigation of the actual incident is in the hands of the New Castle police, Gettings said.
