NEW CASTLE — A bridge replacement project in Wayne Township begins Tuesday.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the project will remove and replace the existing bridge over Squaw Run with a new structure including approaches, guide rail and other improvements. The bridge is on Route 65 between Kolch Lane and Eidenmiller Lane.

To allow the work to occur, Route 65 will be closed in the bridge area around-the-clock through early July. Local residents are encouraged to find alternate routes.

The official detour for cars and small trucks northbound is to take Route 65 to Route 488 east to Wurtemburg Road. This will take motorists back to Route 65. The southbound detour is the same in the opposite direction.

For large trucks, the northbound detour takes Route 65 traffic onto Route 488 east and then on to Route 19 north. From there, trucks will travel to Route 422 and head west. At the Route 388 intersection, the detour turns left until it reaches Route 65.

The southbound detour is the same in the opposite direction.

The prime contractor for the project is Clearwater Construction of Mercer.
