Council OKs purchase of properties

NEW CASTLE — New Castle City Council approved an agreement last night to buy properties to be occupied by a local company.

The city will buy the properties, located in the vicinity of White and Grove streets, then transfer them to Horizon Supply Co.

The purchase price for the four parcels owned by Grove Commons Limited Partnership is $131,500.

Council approved a resolution in November to use money from a state Redevelopment Assistance Capital Grant for the purchase. The city had to receive approval from the state Department of Community and Economic Development to spend funds for the properties.

Horizon is currently located on South Mill Street and needs more space, according to George Joseph, one of the company’s three owners.

The firm sells supplies primarily to gas pipeline companies drilling for Marcellus Shale.

Joseph said the company grew from three employees in November to 12 currently. The company, he said, will have 12 to 15 employees when its move is completed.

City solicitor Jason Medure said council will need to take action later to transfer the deed to Horizon.

Council also approved conditional use requests for two businesses.

One is for Imran Sean to locate an automotive sales and service and repair business at 1024 N. Liberty St.

The other is for New Horizons Treatment Center to operate a drug and alcohol counseling center in Washington Centre.
