NEW CASTLE —
Dog wardens are canvassing homes throughout Lawrence County this month.
The purpose is to ensure all dog owners have current licenses and rabies vaccinations for their animals.
All dogs 3 months old or more must be licensed by Jan. 1 of each year. The fee is $6.45 for each spayed or neutered dog and $8.45 for other dogs. Older adults and those with disabilities may purchase a license for $4.45 for spayed or neutered dogs and $6.45 for others.
In addition, all dogs and non-feral cats 3 months old or more must be vaccinated against rabies. Booster vaccinations must be administered periodically to maintain lifelong immunity.
Violators can be cited with a maximum fine of $300 per violation plus court costs.
Licenses may be purchased through the Lawrence County treasurer’s office or by calling (724) 656-2123. Dog owners can also go online at www.padoglicense.com.
Licenses also are available at Critter Corner, Pet Parlor and the Lawrence County Humane Society in New Castle and Grand Paws in Ellwood City.
