Program offers business help with energy

NEW CASTLE — Pennsylvania manufacturers hoping to improve energy efficiency and cut down on the levels of carbon dioxide they emit can now get assistance from the Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program.

PennTAP is searching for companies in Pennsylvania to participate in the Department of Energy’s Save Energy Now grant program. The program aims to improve energy efficiency, reduce energy expenses and help the environment.

Businesses that apply must be in the manufacturing sector and spend at least $1 million a year on energy costs.

The application deadline to receive assistance from PennTAP is March 30. The grant covers 50 percent of the $50,000 project cost.

PennTAP will select four applicants and provide training and coaching to assist with the implementation.

This program also aims to help participating manufacturers receive national recognition by becoming certified under the American National Standards Institute-accredited Superior Energy Performance program, which includes implementation of an energy management system.
