NEW CASTLE —
A man who shot at a woman during an argument on the city’s South Side is wanted by New Castle police.
Christopher David Murphy, 20, of 16 W. Chartes St. is the suspect in connection with the incident that occurred around 4:50 p.m. Saturday on South Jefferson Street.
A warrant has been issued for Murphy’s arrest.
A witness told poice that as he was driving south on South Jefferson Street he saw a man and woman arguiing. He said he saw the man throw a cell phone on the ground and pull out a black semiautomatic pistol and shoot six rounds into the ground toward the woman as she walked away.
The investigating officers found a broken cell phone and a spent 9-millimeter shell casing at the intersection of South Jefferson and Fulton streets.
The witness, meanwhile, had provided the alleged shooter’s name as Murphy.
Police went to Murphy’s house but he was not at home. They learned the identity of the woman and contacted her. She told police she had been arguing with Murphy but said she was the one who broke the phone and that no gun was involved, according to a report.
Police have charged Murphy with carrying a firearm without a license, recklessly endangering another person and violating a city ordinance by firing a gun.
