NEW CASTLE — New Castle City Council has adopted an ordinance establishing a central booking agreement between New Castle and 18 other municipalities.

With the agreement approved on Wednesday, individuals arrested by police in the participating municipalities will be processed at the city police station.

Centralization of booking is expected to streamline the process and make it easier for all police departments, according to Lawrence County court administrator Michael Occhibone.

The city has a Live Scan machine that allows fingerprints to be electronically transmitted and registered instantaneously with the state.

The participating municipalities are Bessemer, New Wilmington, SNPJ, South New Castle and Volant and the townships of Hickory, Mahoning, Neshannock, North Beaver, Plain Grove, Pulaski, Scott, Shenango, Slippery Rock, Taylor, Union, Washington and Wilmington.

Occhibone previously said the county is obtaining another Live Scan unit from the Pennsylvania Crime Commission for Ellwood City and other municipalities in the southern part of the county.
