Council awards park, golf course contracts

NEW CASTLE — New Castle City Council awarded contracts Thursday night for construction projects at Cascade Park and Sylvan Heights Golf Course.

Heck Construction and Roofing of New Castle was awarded a $51,668 contract for replacement of the roof at the carousel building at Cascade Park. The firm was the low bidder.

Advanced Truss of Youngstown was awarded a $30,957 contract for improvements to the golf cart shed at Sylvan Heights. That firm was also the low bidder.

The carousel project will be paid for with money from the city’s capital improvement fund and community development block grant funds. The golf course work will be paid for from the capital improvement fund.

Although bids were received for a stormwater improvement project at the public works garage, the work will be done in–house.

Council approved a resolution rejecting the bids and authorizing public works employees to do the work.

The apparent low bid for the work was $24,240, submitted by a Hubbard, Ohio, firm.
