Candidates file for state committee posts

NEW CASTLE — Four Lawrence County residents will seek election to the Republican State Committee in the May 20 primary.

GOP voters will elect one man and one woman from the county.

Those who have filed nomination petitions are Nathan W. Schafer of New Castle, Marykim Ann Murtha of Little Beaver Township, Richard E. Flannery of Neshannock Township and Carol Lynne Ryan of New Castle, according to the Pennsylvania Bureau of Elections. They are seeking four-year terms.

Schafer and Ryan are committee members currently.

The Lawrence County Republican Committee appointed Ryan Feb. 22 to complete the remainder of Helen Jackson’s term, which expires this year. Jackson resigned because of her recent appointment as jury coordinator with the Lawrence County courts. She is not permitted to hold any political office.

Paul M. Stefano of New Castle was the only person to file petitions for the Democratic State Committee. He is currently a state committeeman.

Democrats also will elect one man and one woman from the county for four-year terms.
