NEW CASTLE —
He already is probably the most famous cat in New Castle.
Now the mascot and resident of the New Castle Public Library will be recognized on a much broader level.
Stacks is going Hollywood. Sort of.
The three-year-old feline who was adopted by the library appears on the March page of the 2014 Baker and Taylor calendar. Baker and Taylor is a prominent book publisher, which sent out emails earlier this year seeking submissions of cats for its 2014 calendar.
According to Susan Morgan, circulation/public relations director of the library, the company publishes a calendar every year.
The color photo of Stacks was taken by the library circulation staff.
Morgan said out of thousands of entries, Stacks was chosen to represent the third month of the year.
“He is one of the best things that happened to this library,” Morgan said.
About 14,000 calendars were published and will be distributed at libraries, conventions, bookstores and schools across the country and worldwide.
There will be a copy on file at the library for patrons to view but there aren’t enough calendars available for public distribution, Morgan explained.
The calendar is 11x17-inches and features Stacks, the gray-striped tabby with information including a ball of yarn as his favorite toy, an empty Baker and Taylor box filled with packing paper as his favorite sleeping spot and how he has his own Facebook page.
Other facts listed on the calendar by Morgan — “Stacks wandered into New Castle Public Library three years ago. He has since become a friend to all who visit — young and old. Children love to hug and kiss him, and it’s not unusual to see him in the arms of an older adult as they talk to him. He has truly become a gift to our library and community.”
Most of the cat photo submissions were from people who work in libraries, she said.
“Stacks, our baby, is an international celebrity.”
