Wanted: Trick-or-treat times and dates

It’s that time again.

Fall is here and that means Halloween is around the corner.

The New Castle News will be publishing a list of trick-or-treat hours in various communities throughout Lawrence County.

Any municipality that would like to have its hours listed may email them to: nclocal@ncnewsonline.com.

Bottom Dollar Food coming to Neshannock

NEW CASTLE — “Piggy banks will fly” as plans materialize for a fourth grocery store in Neshannock Township.

The Lawrence County Planning Commission Tuesday gave a favorable recommendation to a land development plan for Bottom Dollar Food to build a store in the Call’s Plaza, where Ralph’s Supermarket once stood.

John Pappas of Eckles Architects, representing the grocery chain, said the section of plaza that housed Ralph’s and the former Thrift Drug Co. is to be torn down this fall.

Bottom Dollar plans to build an 18,000-square-foot prototype grocery store at that site, with a loading dock in the back. Construction would begin early next year.

He explained the existing section of plaza has had “years of roof leaks” and damaged hardwood floors and needs to be torn down.

The proposed building is smaller than the building section there now, Pappas said.

Overall improvements to the surrounding site will be minimal, he added.

Bottom Dollar decorates its stores brightly with orange, tan and white colors and sells meat, produce and an array of national brands as well as private brands, pitching its items at money-saving prices.

The company has more than 40 stores in Pennsylvania, including two in Butler. It also has three in the Youngstown area.

The new food store will join Aldi, Giant Eagle and Save-A-Lot in Neshannock Township.

According to Pappas, the Family Dollar store will remain in the plaza, as well as an empty space next to it that abuts the part that will be torn down.
