NEW CASTLE — Tri-County Industries has been awarded the Waste Watcher Award.

The Grove City firm, which serves Lawrence County, received the honor from the Professional Recyclers of Pennsylvania at its annual conference.

The Waste Watcher Award recognizes recycling, waste reduction, reuse and composting programs in Pennsylvania that have exhibited exemplary performance.

Tri-County Industries was nominated for the award by both the Lawrence County and Crawford County recycling coordinators for its curbside collection of recyclables in rural areas.

TCI’s rural curbside collection program was implemented in 2008 and has expanded each year. The program now offers 4,848 homes in rural Pennsylvania with recycling service at no charge above their regular fee for waste collection.

More than 465 tons of materials was collected at the curb from rural residents during 2012.
