Township to revive development plan

A stalled land development on Mercer Road in Neshannock Township is about to be revitalized.

Township solicitor Lou Perrotta Tuesday told the supervisors a developer’s agreement with Staph, DeCarbo & Associates and the township has been drafted to take over and complete the Highland Fields condominium project on Mercer Road near the intersection with Mailtand Lane.

The new developers, he said, will be responsible for the retention pond, removal of weeds, install sidewalks and remove the unsightly dirt mound near the highway.

The supervisors also learned that the worn-down carpets and rubber floors of Hess Ice Rink will be replaced this summer.

The supervisors yesterday authorized RAR Engineering, the township engineers, to develop specifications for the project and to advertise for bids if estimates exceed $18,900, which is the Second Class Township bidding threshold.

Tina Root, co-coordinator at the ice rink, said she obtained quotes from two professional floor companies, but had not contacted the engineer.

She said the floor must be completed by August.
