NEW CASTLE —

No doubt, kids probably shied away from Eddie Munster at school.

This weekend, though, he’ll be the center of attention — along with hundreds of classic cars and trucks — at the 27th annual Back to the 50’s Weekend at Cascade Park.

Eddie was a character on “The Munsters,” a 1964-66 TV comedy that also starred Fred Gwynne (Herman), Yvonne De Carlo (Lily) and Al Lewis (Grandpa) as a loveable family of monsters who can’t fathom why people react strangely to them.

Eddie, a little werewolf and the son of Herman and Lilly, was portrayed by Butch Patrick in a Little Lord Fauntleroy suit. This weekend, Patrick will be in New Castle to appear at the car and family fun event that has been written up in such periodicals at Hot Rod Magazine, Rod and Custom, Street Rodder and Super Rod. Last year, ESPN2’s Street Rodder TV also reported from Back to the 50’s.

Accompanying Patrick will be Grandpa’s Dragula, a coffin-slash-dragster that appeared in only one episode of the show, but which was shown in the closing credits of each second-season episode, according to the Internet Movie Database.

Also making the trip to Cascade Park from former TV shows are the truck from “The Fall Guy” and the General Lee from “The Dukes of Hazzard.”

The memories, though, won’t be limited to remnants of classic television. Hundreds of other vehicles will be on display through the park, forming a backdrop for cruises, live music, a kids zone, food vendors, a cornhole tournament and even a Beatles tribute concert.

Car registration starts at 8 a.m. each day. Spectator gates open at 9 a.m. Tickets are  $5 per person, which children 12 and under admitted free. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the American Diabetes Association.
