Gas line replacement planned for Wayne

NEW CASTLE — Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania Inc. is planning to replace gas lines in Wayne Township.

The company sent a letter to the Lawrence County commissioners stating its intent to apply to the state Department of Environmental Protection, for permits to install about 4,700 feet of four-inch natural gas pipeline along Wurtemburg Road, Portersville Road and other streets in Wayne Township.

Permits are needed for utility line stream crossing and erosion and sedimentation control plans.

The project will upgrade aging lines in the area, according to the letter. An unnamed tributary to the Slippery Rock Creek will be crossed by the line.

The pipe will be installed by open trench.
