County’s cost for primary tops $80,000

NEW CASTLE — Lawrence County’s cost to run last month’s primary election totaled $80,505.47.

The cost covered advertising, materials and supplies, machine maintenance, poll workers, rent and anyone working election night, according to county elections director Ed Allison.

The county’s cost to pay poll workers and anyone who worked on election day was $49,318.07, he said.

Nearly 60 people worked on election night.

A total of 9,195 votes were cast, which broke down to a cost of $8.76 per vote.

Allison said this year’s cost to run the election is about the same as last year’s.

The county Board of Elections certified the election results yesterday.
