Making a Difference: Caregiver whose husband is battling ALS thankful for the support of her neighbors



A few months earlier, the Jones were at the forefront of another special occasion. Lamberto planned a proposal to take place at PNC Park during a Pirates game. It was to be displayed on the scoreboard screen.

“The whole was a secret to Christina,” Marilyn said. “We knew about it, but were not going to be there because John wasn’t comfortable being out in public.

But Judy was resolute. She made plans to transport John and Marilyn in her van so they could be there. “If it weren’t for her being so persistent, we wouldn’t have gone,” Marilyn said.

Marilyn said her family has been terrific, including brother Mike Misco and his wife, Kathy; sister MaryAnn and Les; and sister Marjie Scott and husband, Lee, as well as friends, Janet and Mike Busin and Dan and Linda Chrobak and the next door neighbors, Frank Cwynar and his family.

“They all have been a blessing in our lives.”

A Sept. 28 golf outing at Castle Hills Golf Course is being organized by Brian Chrobak to help with the family’s mounting expenses.

“John and I are amazed at how people reach out,” said Marilyn. “John is appreciative of what people do ... simple things like holding a door open. When someone does something for us, he always says ‘please thank them and maybe we should send them a gift card.’ ”

Two environmental groups — Delaware Riverkeeper Network and Mountain Watershed Association — have filed a friend of the court brief with Commonwealth Court.
