NEW CASTLE —
New charges including homicide were filed Wednesday against De’andre McQueen.
McQueen, 16, of Detroit, is charged in the fatal shooting of Eric Staller last month.
Charges include homicide, aggravated and simple assault, possession of instruments of crime and recklessly endangering another person.
He was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Melissa Amodie who set his preliminary hearing for 11 a.m. Feb. 2.
She said homicide is a “non-bailable offense.” He remains in the Lawrence County jail.
McQueen also is charged two counts each of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and simple assault and one count each of burglary, robbery, theft by unlawful taking and conspiracy to commit robbery in a Union Township home invasion Dec. 15.
He is being held on $250,000 bond on those charges .
Although he is 16, McQueen is being charged as an adult.
On the new charges, New Castle police said Staller, known as “Red” lived in a “tent city” near the Falls Street bypass. He was found about 2:30 p.m. Dec. 3 in the southbound lane of Locust Street. Police said he had been shot four times in the chest and neck with a small caliber gun.
According to the arrest report, two witnesses told police that McQueen, a passenger in a silver Pontiac Grand AM, jumped from the car as it was traveling on Locust Street.
One witness said he saw McQueen shoot the man.
The driver of the vehicle said McQueen, known to her as “D,” got out of her car whlie it was stopped at the intersection of Locust and Grant streets. She said McQueen ran up the hill and she heard gunshots, then saw the victim fall to the ground.
She said McQueen then got back into the car in an agitated state and told her to go.

The Mahoning Township supervisors have received a $500,000 block grant to help residents tap into the new sewer system. Supervisor Vito Yeropoli, who is also sanitation plant secretary/manager, said the township was notified of the grant Monday.
