Man killed in Wayne Township crash

A Lawrence County man was killed Tuesday night in a one-vehicle crash in Wayne Township.

Pennsylvania State Police identified the driver as a 33-year-old male, but are withholding his name pending notification of next of kin.

According to police, the man was traveling on Route 65 about 11:45 p.m. at a high rate of speed when his 2003 Oldsmobile Alero failed to negotiate a left-hand curve in the road.

The vehicle struck a utility pole, shearing it off, then an embankment before going back across the road and rolling several times. It came to rest on its wheels in a field, several feet east of the highway.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt. A published report said that he was thrown from the car.

A supervisor at the Lawrence County 911 Center said this morning that a helicopter had been called to transport the driver to a regional trauma unit. However, he was pronounced dead at Ellwood City Hospital.
