Employees set donation record

NEW CASTLE — FirstEnergy Corp. employees set a company record for donations to the 2012 Harvest for Hunger campaign.

They donated nearly $360,000 and 10 tons of food to organizations across the service territory. The funds and food translate into more than 2.5 million meals.

The money raised and food contributed is part of the friendly competition conducted by FirstEnergy employees and their business groups. The groups hosted in-office yard and bake sales, had auctions and sold lunches along with other activities during the month-long campaign.

Donations to Harvest for Hunger from FirstEnergy employees help stock the cupboards of more than 40 food banks and organizations throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, New York and West Virginia.

In the last decade, company employees contributed $2.6 million to Harvest for Hunger, the equivalent of more than 18.7 million meals.
