Thieves target store, homes

State police are investigating a weekend crime spree in Enon Valley.

The incidents occurred between 11 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday at two Vine Street homes and a business.

Police said someone attempted to break into Enon Mercantile and Grocery through a rear door, then broke out a second-floor window and entered the building. Once inside, the burglars attempted to break into the cash drawer and lottery machine and stole several packages of cigarettes and pop.

Before leaving, they plugged a bathroom sink and turned the water on, leaving it running when they fled the store.

Police said the burglars then went to a Vine Street home and attempted to take an all-terrain vehicle. After not being able to get it started, they went to another residence and stole a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire.

The vehicle later was found on Russell Road in Little Beaver Township, having sustained severe damage, apparently from a crash.

Anyone with information is asked to call state police.
