Two men held up Dave’s Super Market on Friday night.
An employee at the 440 E. Long Avenue business called New Castle police just after 7:30 p.m. and said that two men had entered the store and demanded money. At least one of them displayed a firearm and put the gun in her face, telling her to open the cash register drawer.
The employee complied, and the man then demanded she open the lottery drawer, too. The man took the cash from both drawers and put it into a plastic bag that the second man had been carrying.
The employee did not know the exact amount taken but estimated that it was about $1,000.
The two men then ran out of the store toward Grimes Street.
The employee said that one man was wearing a black shirt and pants and had a black mask covering his face. The other was wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his face. Both men also wore gloves.
A Grimes Street resident later reported having seen two men in dark clothing running toward Belmont Street. Police searched the area but did not find the men.
The store has security cameras, but the employee told police they were not on at the time of the robbery.
