Dads, daughters dance at benefit

NEW CASTLE — More than 50 area fathers celebrated Father’s Day with a song and dance with their daughters.

The New Castle chapter of the Twilight Wish Foundation, a national nonprofit organization that grants wishes to deserving, economically disadvantaged seniors, held its first annual Father-Daughter Dance fundraiser.

Taking place from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Cascade Park dance pavilion, all proceeds went to benefit the Twilight Wish Foundation.

Inspired by a similar father-daughter dance sponsored by an organization in Boardman, Ohio, New Castle Twilight Wish Foundation director Tom Ford was eager to bring such an evening to New Castle.

“It was a really unique and different evening,” Ford said. “I thought it would be great for us to hold a fundraiser like that.

Ford praised area businesses including Personal Touch Home Health Care, Living Treasures and Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt, all of which donated raffle items, foods and fun for the event.

Though presale tickets had been available, organizers saw an influx of interested fathers and daughters on Saturday, anticipating more than 50 fathers would attend the evening.

With the pavilion decked out with balloons and a photo booth, fathers and their daughters were able to dance to music new and old provided by a DJ.

Though this was the first year of the event, Ford was hopeful to make this an annual tradition, already planning for next year’s dance.

“We’re hoping to partner with area business next year to offer Father’s Day gifts,” Ford said. “We’re hoping this event will get even bigger in the future and we’ll be able to get the word out to even more school districts.”

Since its inception a little more than a year ago, the New Castle Chapter of the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted seven wishes for area senior citizens, including a Vietnam veteran.
