Creek cleanup planned

NEW CASTLE — Jennings Environmental Education Center, Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and Paddle Without Pollution are joining forces April 27.

The three groups are planning to conduct a spring cleanup operation of the Slippery Rock Creek.

They are looking for volunteers to join them as they use kayaks and canoes to collect trash from the creek. Participants will begin at 9 a.m. that day and paddle six miles from Camp Crestfield to the take-out at Studebaker, near Harlansburg Road.

Plans are to clean up the water and the shoreline. Participants will meet at Jennings Environmental Education Center and shuttle to the launch site.

Lunch/snacks and shuttle services will be provided. There will be a limited number of kayaks and canoes available for those who don’t take their own.

Additional launch information and details will be provided upon sign-up. To register, go to www.paddlewithoutpollution.com/events.
