Photo Gallery, Story: Boy recalls fatal accident with sadness

Ozzy and Octavius were instant friends when they met a year ago at Brown’s house on Winslow Avenue. They saw each other almost every weekend, because Octavius lived next door to Brown.

“He’d stay Sundays at my house and he’d always ask, ‘Is Octavius going to be there?’” Brown said. Ozzy has since learned that his and Octavius’ grandfathers had been friends.

“We loved Ninjas and we played superheroes,” Ozzy said, adding he was teaching Octavius to play football. They liked opposing NFL teams. Octavius favored Green Bay and the Eagles and Ozzy was a Steelers fan.

Whenever they watched football and the Steelers lost, Octavius wouldn’t say anything.

“He would just sit there and look at me and smile,” Ozzy said.

Ozzy went back to school Monday, and the school is arranging for him to talk with a counselor, his grandmother said.

Ozzy has an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon Wednesday to have his knees, joints, ligaments and nerves checked because he is complaining of numbness.

Coonfare, who faces homicide by vehicle and other charges, is scheduled for his preliminary hearing Dec. 18.

“It will be a good thing to get this behind us,” Ozzy’s mother said.
