Property tax deadline nears

NEW CASTLE — Union Township residents are reminded that property taxes must be paid by Dec 31.

Any property tax not paid by that date will be filed with the Lawrence County Tax Claim Bureau for collections.

Personal checks will be accepted before Dec. 15. After that, taxes must be paid with bank checks or money orders.

The real estate tax collector will observe regular office hours of 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday and Dec. 18, 19, 27and 28.

The office is located at the Union Township Municipal Building, 1910 Municipal Drive.

    Area motorcyclists will be heading out once again this month to pay tribute to the nation’s soldiers and veterans. The second annual Fallen Warrior Ride is scheduled to leave Cascade Park at 6 p.m. Aug. 15 for a one-hour, circuitous route to Laurel High School. Once there, riders — led by the Patriot Honor Guard of Western Pennsylvania — will parade into the Lawrence County Fairgrounds, where they’ll join a Salute to the American Soldiers: For God and Country, a crusade by Vision Ministries of Lawrence County.
