NEW CASTLE —
It’s a Thanksgiving tradition, ranking right up there with turkey, cranberries and football.
Each November, the New Castle News asks a group of local kindergarten students to tell us how they’d go about whipping up Thanksgiving dinner. This year, youngsters from Laurel Elementary and Portersville Christian schools answered the call.
Meanwhile, Shenango kindergartners got into the real deal Tuesday when the dressed up in costumes recalling the first Thanksgiving for a turkey dinner. Photos from that event are included with the Laurel youngsters’ recipes.
Haylie Savo — We get the turkey at Walmart. Thanksgiving morning we bake the turkey with oil, milk and stuffing. Cook it for two minutes until the button pops. Then plop it on a plate and it’s ready to eat.
Rileigh Krebs — First my daddy shoots the turkey. We take it to Nanna’s and Nanna gets it ready to cook. She puts salt, vinegar and pepper on it. Then she puts it in the oven to bake. Next we (all our family) eat Thanksgiving dinner together.
Hailey Collins — Put turkey in sink and wash first. Then put gloves on and get big black pan. Turn on stove. It gets hot.
Maddisen McAnany — Butter, stuffing, mix together. Stuff turkey with stuffing. Place turkey in oven. Bake at 325 degrees until the red dot pops out, then turkey is done. Enjoy.
Summer Haney — First, Daddy gets a turkey from the woods. Then Mommy cleans it. Next we bake it for 300 hours. Finally we take it out of the oven and eat it.
Mason Walters — You have to get up early and go hunt for one. Then when you get one, you come back home and take all the feathers off. Then you put it in a pan and put stuffing, salt and pepper on it. Then you cook it. Then when it’s done you eat it.
Angel Milbert — First, you gotta put it on a pan. Then you put it in the oven and cook it for two minutes while the oven is very, very hot. Then you cut it up and eat it.
Nicolina Antonio — You make a circle and then you make feathers and legs and arms. Then color it and write Nicolina and it will make eggs.
Ethanael Turner — Go to the grocery store and buy a turkey. Take turkey home, open it and put it in a pot. Add the ingredients and cook it. Then take the turkey out and put it on the table and eat it. Next, put the plate it is on in the dishwasher.
William Disman — First you brown it. Then you put it in the oven for one hour and 55 minutes at 300. You put butter on it and pepper. That’s it.
Vanessa Rogan — You hunt the turkey. You shoot it. Take it home. You cut it open and then put it in the oven and cook it, and then you eat it.
Gabriella Archidiacono — Put seasonings on it, stuff it with meat and deep fry it.
Jacob Clouse — Cook it on the stove at 19 degrees for 20 hours and when it’s done, eat it.
Valerie Hauser — Put it in the oven with chicken nuggets. Serve with mashed potatoes and corn.
Abigail Richards — Draw your hand, put one eye on and legs.
Macey Cwynar — Ask a grown-up.
Christopher Johns — Hurry up and grab him. Kill him with a gun. Put him in the oven. Cook him on hot. Take him out when oven beeps and hope he is done.
Makenzie Kildoo — My Daddy puts it in the oven. He makes us yummy pumpkin pie. We eat lots of deviled eggs. We spread peanut butter or cheese on celery. I like to help my Daddy set and enjoy our yummy food.
Elijah Paraska — Put butter and parmesan then BBQ on it. Stuff it with Goldfish then put it in the oven for a half an hour and 50 minutes.
Caliann Snyder — Get a turkey. Bake it. Stuff it. Eat it.
Reid Ketzel — Put the turkey in a big pan and put it in the oven at 10 degrees. Cook it for at least one hour. Then you take it out of the oven and cut it up and eat it with stuffing.
Morgan Barker — Shoot it, then take it home, cut it, stuff it and put it in the oven. Cook it for 10 minutes, take it out and put it on the table.
Sarah Fedrizzi — Put it on the grill for 17 minutes. You can add salt, pepper and butter for it to taste good.
Kailee Hall — You kill it first and then you put it in the oven. Then you cut it up and that’s how you make a turkey.
Molly Sue Pelligrene — First we give the turkey a bath. Mommy makes the stuffing. We stuff the turkey and put him in the roaster. Daddy puts on his special spices and puts the turkey in the fridge. We wake up really early to start cooking the turkey.
Taylin Smith — Cook it first. Add seasonings. Add salads. Add vegetables.
Tyler Shearer — Pull off the feathers after we shoot one outside. Chop off its head and legs. Stuff it with stuffing. Put it in a bowl and put it in the oven and cook it for 85 minutes. After it dings and you take it out, cut it up, take out the bones and it’s ready to eat.
April Ammons — First you take the wrapper off. Put it in the microwave, then in the oven, then cook for two hours. Take it out and eat it, then put the rest in the fridge.
Tori Atkins — You go to the farm and get a turkey and then you pluck him. Put him in a pan and cook him at 80 degrees for three hours. Take him out, put him on a tray, put him on table. Cut him up and eat him.
C.J. Conner — Put turkey in the oven. Put it in a bowl. Push it down. Cook it. Eat it. That was quick.
Conlan Davis — Grill the turkey, stuff it, squirt it with juices and that’s all.
Marlee Guthrie — Clean turkey out real good inside and out. Add plenty of stuffing, rub butter all over outside of turkey. Add small amount of salt and pepper. Bake at 400 degrees for several hours, basting constantly. Bake until done button pops out.
Maelee Hill — So you take a turkey, add a little butter, flour, sweet potatoes and stuff it with ham (I like ham on my turkey). Cook for 20 minutes.
Sami Jo Kramer — Pick its feathers, wash it, cook it, eat it.
Abi Kuth — Put Reese Cups on it and cook it.
Michael McCosby — First shoot it. Cut it. Warm it up. Eat it. And then get some dessert.
Matthew Shaffer — Getting a turkey is easy. You can go to the store and buy one or you can shoot one. Bring it home and put it in the dishwasher. Then put a cherry on top, oil and vinegar, peppers and carrots on it, then cook it for eight hours and 10 degrees.
Kaylee Shaner — Bake it at home on your stove for 12 minutes. Then take it off the stove and cut it and eat it.
Alyssa Sherman — Daddy shoots turkey, takes stuff out, then put in oven for 10 minutes.
Mack Shevitz — Go hunting with Daddy and have Mommy cook it. Then I get to eat it.
Emmy Tinstman — Poke a hole in it. Then you put it in the oven for five minutes. Then you let it sit out. Then you eat it.
Jayme Weisenstein — I don’t know, but if you ask Daddy, he’d say to deep fry it. Hopefully, he’ll do it at Uncle Brad’s. I don’t want him to burn down our house.
Mariska Zias — Love, stuffing and clean it out. Bake in in the oven.
Sam David — Roast it! Set up the table and eat the turkey! Oh, and tear off the skin.
Evan Stahlman — Make stuffing, mix the stuffing and put it in the turkey. Put turkey in the oven for seven hours. Take it out, cool it down, then you eat the turkey.
Brooklyn Kennedy — Take a chicken nugget, take the inside out and cook it. Put salt on it after removing any bones. That’s how I make it homemade — ready to eat. Add gravy, if you like it.
Mason Nail — Put marinade on it, put it in the oven, cover the pan. Check to see if it’s hot. Baste it, put back in oven, take it out, cut it up, eat it.
Chloe Buchowski — First you soak it in sugar and salt walter. Then pat it dry. Put on some seasoning. Then put it in the oven for four hours until it smells good!
Aiden DeLillo — Mommy puts it in the oven. It cooks for a very, very long time. We eat it.
R.J. Kissick — Hunt for a turkey, shoot turkey, take feathers off turkey, put in a pan. Cook it in the oven on medium heat for 10 hours. Then eat!
Aidan Fuchs — Get a dead turkey and cook it in the oven. I would put salt, pepper, sprinkles, flour and sugar on it. I would cook it for 20 minutes at 40 degrees.
Caiti Pedrick — Kill it. Don’t wash it. Stuff it with a chicken. Wrap it in bacon. Bake it for 15 minutes at 94 degrees.
Adyson Holliday — I stuff it then I cook it for 15 minutes.
Kali Hamilla — Put stuff on it to make it good, take out the yucky parts, and cook it.
Destiny Maitland — Put seasoning on the the turkey. Stuff the belly with stuffing. Cook turkey for 14 minutes. Enjoy!
Olivia Dunmire — Squeeze the juice out of it. Then you put it in the oven. After a long time, get it out of the oven. Then it’s done. Next, you wait for it to cool down. Next you cut it. Then the last important thing is that you eat it.
Mara Bartley — Put salt and pepper on the turkey with a little olive oil. Put on a couple spices. Then put the stuffing in. Cook in the crock pot for 90 minutes.
Butch Pennachio — The best way to make a turkey is homemade, the way my mama makes it. I love to eat turkey for Thanksgiving. We stuff our turkey and make it in the oven.
Makayla O’Donnell — Put it in the oven, let it bake. Squirt some turkey juice on it and bake it some more and then take it out and eat it.
