NEW CASTLE —
The Plain Grove Township supervisors are seeking financial help for a war memorial and pavilion they are planning.
The supervisors sent a letter to the Lawrence County commissioners requesting funding for the project, planned for the municipal building. They estimate the cost at $22,000.
The township had purchased an old cast iron school bell from the former Plain Grove High School that burned in 1964.
The township also removed the old war memorial from the East Lawrence Elementary School before the building and contents were sold by the Wilmington school district at an auction in July.
The township supervisors are hoping to incorporate the bell and the memorial in the plans for the pavilion.
The supervisors’ goal is to have the project completed by Memorial Day so they can host a dedication for it.
Chairman Dan Vogler said the commissioners will discuss and consider the request.
