NEW CASTLE —
The city of New Castle has applied for a state grant to improve the Cascade Quarry.
The application for $24,602 has been submitted to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Improvements will include regrading from the existing parking area to the shoreline and establishing trails along the shore for better access to the shore.
Another area will be regraded for additional access from the parking area to the shoreline to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Plus, there will be a platform for fishing that will be compliant with the disabilities act.
The city will match the grant with in-kind labor by volunteers and city public works employees and community development block grant funds.
If the city receives the funding, the work will be done in the spring of 2014.
Anyone who wants to make comments regarding the application should contact Tammi Gibson at (724) 656-3505.
