Hearings continued, some charges withdrawn

NEW CASTLE — Hearings for two men facing robbery charges have been continued.

Charges against a third man have been withdrawn.

Hearings are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday for Joseph Jared Pounds, 20, of 104 13th St., and Michael Viccari, 24, of 133 Hazel St., both of Ellwood City.

Pounds is charged with aggravated and simple assault, recklessly endangering another, witness intimidation and conspiracy; robbery, theft, aggravated assault, prohibited possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon without a license and flight to avoid apprehension.

Additional charges of robbery, theft and simple assault were withdrawn when a witness refused to cooperate.

He remains in the Lawrence County jail, unable to post $100,000 bond on the intimidation/assault charges, and $50,000 bond on both the robbery and the flight charges.

Pounds is represented by court-appointed attorney Almon Burke Jr. of Pittsburgh.

According to Ellwood City police, Pounds participated in a robbery and assault about 11 p.m. Dec. 8.

Viccari is charged with robbery and theft and remains in the Lawrence County jail unable to post  $50,000 bond.

Ellwood City police said he participated in a robbery about 11 p.m. Dec. 8.

He pleaded guilty this week to charges of possession of a controlled substance and criminal mischief. A charge of institutional vandalism was withdrawn. District Judge David Rishel, who accepted the guilty plea, sentenced him to pay a fine, costs of prosecution and $200 restitution to the victim.

He is represented by the office of Lawrence County Public Defender.

All charges were withdrawn against a third man, Adam Matthew Pounds, 22, of 104 13th St., Ellwood City.

He had been charged with aggravated and simple assault, recklessly endangering others, intimidation of a witness and criminal conspiracy.

Charges were dismissed “at the discretion of the prosecution.”
