New Castle News

Two men have been charged with taking more than 400 pounds of copper, valued at $1,000.

Eric Matthew Stoner, 23, of 132 Redwood Circle, Pulaski, was charged with burglary, criminal conspiracy to commit burglary, theft and receiving stolen property.

Stoner was arraigned before District Judge Melissa Amodie and lodged in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of $10,000 bond. He posted bail Friday.

Chad Richard McConahy, 23, of 355 Richards Lane, Edinburg, was charged with criminal conspiracy to commit burglary, theft and receiving stolen property. He was arraigned before District Judge Scott McGrath and released on $1,000 bond.

The men were arrested at their homes about 1 p.m. Thursday following a 10-month investigation by the state an Northwest Lawrence Regional police.

The storage facility of Dairy Farmers of America on Route 18 in Wilmington Township, was entered about 2 a.m. Jan. 3, according to police. At that time, 415 pounds of rolled, insulated copper was taken, police said, adding much of it has been scrapped and sold at local junkyards.
