Hearing in baby case postponed

New Castle News

The preliminary hearing of a woman who allegedly abandoned her baby in Union Township has been postponed to Thursday.

Assistant District Attorney Kathleen Fee Baird yesterday said a potential witness was not available for the hearing, which had been scheduled for yesterday in Central Court.

Lelanie Gurley, 21, of 80 Harmony Dwellings, Beaver Falls, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct. She remains in the Lawrence County jail on $30,000 bond.

Union Township police said the 4-month-old baby boy was found shortly after noon Aug. 21 on the porch of a house in the 300 block of Grandview Avenue.

The baby remains in the custody of Lawrence County Children and Youth Services. A hearing before CYS on the custody of the baby also is scheduled for Thursday, police said.
