The mother of a baby abandoned last week in Union Township has been located.

Union Township police yesterday filed charges against Lelanie Gurley, 21, of 80 Harmony Dwellings, Beaver Falls.

She was arraigned yesterday morning before District Judge Jennifer Nicholson on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct. She remains in the Lawrence County jail on $30,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing for Gurley is scheduled for Thursday in central court.

Police said Gurley’s 4-month-old son remains in the custody of Lawrence County Children and Youth Services. A hearing before CYS on the custody of the baby is scheduled for Sept. 4.

Police said the baby was found shortly after noon Thursday on the porch of a house in the 300 block of Grandview Avenue.

Police said the homeowner had received a call from a woman informing him the baby had been left on his front porch because she didn’t want it any more.

When the homeowner checked the porch, he found the infant in a child carrier, with a diaper bag full of baby items.

Union Township patrolman Michael Mrozek said the baby “is a real cutie.” Mrozek said the child was not injured and in “excellent condition” when he was abandoned.
