Joshua Stewart's attorney arrested

An attorney with ties to New Castle faces charges for reportedly taking cocaine into the Allegheny County courthouse.

Pittsburgh’s Tribune-Review and WTAE reported today that county sheriff's officers arrested Keenan D. Holmes, 29, yesterday morning. The sheriff’s department said Holmes passed through a security point and placed personal items, including a folded $1 bill, into a container.

The media outlets reported that a security guard observed a white substance on the bill. The guard believed the substance to be cocaine.

Holmes was then arrested and later charged with possession of contraband and prohibited acts. He was arraigned in Pittsburgh Municipal Court last night and released on his own recognizance. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 10.

Holmes represents New Castle teenager Joshua Stewart in a race discrimination case against the city’s school system.

An attempt to reach Holmes was unsuccessful.
