New Castle police are investigating the reported home invasion and robbery of a 96-year-old East Side man.
Officers were called to a Court Street home at 8:30 a.m. Friday.
The 96-year-old resident told police he had been awakened at sunrise by an intruder who said: “I want money.”
When he did not provide any, the man said, the intruder hit him on the head with a small purple flashlight. The man said that caused him to fall onto the bed.
The resident told police he watched the intruder walk around his room, opening drawers and boxes apparently looking for money. He said about $45 was taken from his billfold.
Police said the back door of the house had been forced open.
