No Steelers, Pens at Back to the 50’s

New Castle News

There will be no “surprise” member of either the Pittsburgh Steelers or Pittsburgh Penguins visiting Back to the 50’s.

Tami Marshall, daughter of promoter Chuck Lombardo, said the committee learned this week that the promised visits by professional football and hockey players Thursday and Saturday at the 23rd annual event at Cascade Park are off — or rather they never were on.

“A representative of Coors Beer, which is our sponsor, told us months ago that he knew people in both organizations and promised he could get someone here, so we went with it,” Marshall said. “It didn’t work out, but we did not find that out until Monday, after all the advertising and flyers were out.

“Our phones are ringing off the hook about it. We apologize for the mix-up, but it came just as much of a surprise to us as it did to everyone else.”
