A North Hill man arrested on warrant is facing additional charges for allegedly having a gun and drugs.
Michael L. Williams, 30, of 522 Moody Ave., was charged Saturday by New Castle police for alleged possession of two 40-milligram pills of Methadose, a brand name for methadone.
New Castle police said they pulled over a white 2000 Mercedes Benz van on East Washington Street Saturday and learned Williams, the driver, was wanted on a warrant for aggravated assault charges.
Police said they searched him and found the pills in his pocket.
Police allege they had knowledge that Williams and his passenger had been involved in crack cocaine sales in the New Castle area and that Williams was known to carry a firearm.
Officers obtained a search warrant after a city narcotics dog alerted them to the rear of the van. They searched the vehicle and found the handgun, a Taurus 9 mm pistol, inside a compartment under the passenger’s seat.
They learned the gun had been reported stolen to the Union Township police department on Nov. 2.
Williams also is charged with possession of an illegal substance, receiving stolen property and illegal possession of a firearm.
He was lodged in the Lawrence County jail on $5,000 bond and has posted bail.
