Man charged in iced tea toss

New Castle News

Authorities identified a Wampum man as the person who threw a container of iced tea at a police cruiser.

State police in New Castle filed charges Monday in District Judge Jerry Cartwright’s court against James J. McDonald, 34. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. April 8.

McDonald faces two counts of reckless endangerment and one count of propelling a missile into an occupied vehicle, all misdemeanor offenses. He also was cited for criminal mischief, a summary offense.

Police reported that McDonald, driving a pickup truck, threw the container at a state police cruiser in New Beaver Borough at 11:12 p.m. Feb. 25. The incident occurred on Route 18, north of Stone Crest Golf Course, as the vehicles passed one another.

The cruiser’s alley lights and windshield sustained $600 in damage. Troopers James Medvit and Victor Stonebraker, who were inside the cruiser, were not injured.
