New Castle and Lawrence County are in the grips of a winter storm warning until midnight.
Meteorologist Roger Stairs of the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh said 4 to 6 inches of snow is expected to fall Tuesday, turning to a freezing rain and snow mix late Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Temperatures should hover at 30 to 32 degrees, he said, and wind is expected from the east, gusting to 25 miles per hour.
“This is what we wait for — a typical winter in western Pennsylvania,” Stairs said.
Wednesday should be better for those counting the days until spring.
Only a little snow is predicted, Stairs said, with little or no accumulation and temperatures in the low 30s.
