Day of Caring arrives Thursday

New Castle News

NEW CASTLE — The United Way of Lawrence County will conduct its annual Day of Caring on Thursday.

The day begins with an 8 a.m. breakfast at the Sankey Center. A special remembrance will take place in observance of the 10th year anniversary of the Sept, 11th bombings. Speakers include Lawrence County Commissioner Dan Vogler and Scott Snyder, executive director of the American Red Cross. Snyder, who spent time at Ground Zero, serves on the American Red Cross National Public Relations Committee.

“Day of Caring is an opportunity for volunteers to not only support our agencies monetarily but also with their hard work,” said Sara Dudash, chairperson of the United Way community services committee, which coordinates activities for the day.

“Day of Caring is a wonderful way to see your donated dollars at work,” added Gayle Young, executive director of the local United Way. “Our agencies will give the volunteers a tour and overview of the services they provide.

“For others, it is a way to explore the agency before getting involved on a more in-depth level.”

Individual volunteers as well as employers willing to donate employees to the Day of Caring are welcome.
