NEW CASTLE —
Residents are welcome to return to the Laurel School District’s new track or trek through its revamped website.
“The track is finished,” said Ed Novad, the district’s director of building and grounds. “It’s opened back up.”
Work started in June. The facility reopened to the public in late August.
“We have quite a number of residents from the community take advantage of the track,” Novad said after Wednesdayx night’s board meeting.
In April, the school board approved a contract for approximately $75,000 to improve the track surface. It had been in use for 11 years.
Novad said the track’s life expectancy is 10 to 15 years. To promote even wear on the surface, walkers are asked to use the outside two lanes.
The administration also presented its redesigned website to school board members during the meeting.
“I really looked at this like a parent,” explained Susan Miller, assistant to the superintendent. “What does a parent want to see?”
Miller said she wanted to make the site easy to navigate and provide the community with the information it wants. She added it is a work in progress.
“We want to highlight some of the good things going on in Laurel,” she said. “We want to showcase the building, the grounds, our programs that we have.
