NEW CASTLE —
Two free programs are on tap for weekend visitors to Moraine State Park.
The first — Saturday afternoon — runs from 1 to 3 p.m. at McDanel’s Launch on the North Shore.
Participants are invited to explore off shore by meeting the park naturalist to kayak among the beautiful natural scenery.
Those taking part may use their own kayaks to participate or reserve one of Moraine’s kayaks free of charge. In order to use a park kayak, the person must be at least 12 and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. To reserve a park kayak, call the Moraine office at (724) 368-8811.
This is an intermediate paced paddle. Participants are reminded to dress for the weather conditions and take drinking water with them.
Monday is “Fish for Free Day” at the park.
Each year, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s executive director designates two Fish for Free Days. These special days allow anyone — resident or non-resident — to legally fish on Pennsylvania’s waterways for the state’s most popular fish, without a fishing license. All other fishing regulations still apply.
Fish for Free Days are the perfect opportunity to introduce a friend or relative to the lifelong sport of fishing. There’s no better way to enjoy Pennsylvania’s great outdoors than a day of fishing with the entire family.
At Moraine, fishing poles and tackle can be borrowed free of charge between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the park office, located on the south shore.
