Police chief’s efforts help to thwart ATVs

NEW CASTLE — Editor, the News:

I would like to publicly acknowledge New Castle’s chief of police, Bobby Salem, for aggressively addressing the all-terrain vehicle problem in our neighborhood.

An alley runs alongside our house, onto which our driveway and my neighbor’s driveway — where two small children play outside — back into.

This alley has been plagued by ATVs speeding through all hours of the day and night and resulted in a broken window at our house.

After several phone calls speaking with Salem, it was addressed at a city council meeting and an ordinance was passed banning the use of ATVs in the city. I’m happy to say that the alley is ATV free.

Without the help of Salem, this wouldn’t have been possible.

Once again, our neighborhood is grateful.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 fell from the sky in Donetsk, Ukraine, on Thursday, killing all 298 people aboard. Many are speculating that Russian rebels (supported by Vladimir Putin) are responsible for downing the aircraft. What do you think?

Yes. All evidence points that way.
No. Everyone is so quick to point fingers, but there's not enough evidence to support claims of Russian guilt.
I'm not sure. I'll just wait until the investigation is over to make up my mind.
What is up with these Malaysian Airlines planes? I know one airline I won't be flying any time soon...
