NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
The other day, I was watching a political talk show and was amused by an incident on the show.
One guest called the person at the center of a controversy a liar. The person defending the opposite viewpoint stated that that person should immediately apologize to this person because she was a good person.
I started thinking and asked myself: What is it nowadays that makes a person a “good” person? Is it the same things that I was taught when I was growing up?
Is a person “good” now because they’re a good tipper? Maybe it’s because they’re a good dancer or even a good bowler. Hey, how about a good cook?
Then I thought, maybe this person was a good public speaker or even a good BSer. Maybe she lives in a good neighborhood or went to a good school or has a good job. Maybe she is a good worker and has good friends.
Hey, maybe she’s a good looker or is a really good dresser. I guess this is just another example of the “new normal” TV or other social media are pushing nowadays.
There is an old saying that goes like this: “You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.”
What’s even more relevant is that you can’t ever fool God. I think some people ought to do some real soul-searching and ask themselves, “Who is it that I think I’m really fooling?”
More often than not, it’s just themselves. It’s never too late to change. They should try walking down a different path. They just might find it quite enjoyable.
