NEW CASTLE —
Editor, The News:
I am writing to your paper to see if everyone in this town perceives the same thoughts when it comes to the less fortunate.
To start with, let’s look at how people look at the City Rescue Mission.
I hear daily that some more prosperous people in this town see the men who stay there as nothing but drunks and drug addicts. Well I am here to set the record straight. Many of these men are not here by choice, but rather by chance.
You could say that they are down on their luck, but what luck? Being at the mission is no picnic.
There are mandatory rules to be followed, as well as chapel every morning. And as far as drugs or alcohol are concerned, they are definitely not tolerated and you will be looking for another place to live if you choose this route.
Everybody has chores to do to keep it a sanitary, as well as a clean, environment.
The food for the mission may be mostly donated, but people living here must donate their time to prepare it.
If anybody should question the authenticity of this letter, they can call and set up a tour to see for themselves.
I am currently living at the mission and I am not happy with my situation. However, at present, it cannot be helped due to financial and economic downfalls not seen.
Even when it comes to families and friends, they all seem to have the same reaction, no matter what their life is like. They only see the bad in a person no matter what it looks like.
So in conclusion, I would like to say I am grateful to those who care, and I will keep praying for those who don’t.
